Open Reception September 11th, 2021 5-9pm

In her solo debut for Putty’s Coronation, CHiKA presents; GO03_ONEESS. A series of augmented reality sculptures and a site-specific light installation. This project was developed and supported by Nowhere Gallery, NYC and NARS Satellite Residency on Governors Island.

GO03 by CHiKA represents the culmination of the artist's meticulously executed desire to develop systems of arrangement and order. In a world that is often seemingly chaotic and random, CHiKA turns towards emerging technologies to create spatio- temporal phenomenon that alter our engagements with digitally and physically hybridized realities. Setting up alternative forms of identification and meaning, CHiKA guides us through a speculative future where harmony and understanding reigns supreme.

For GO03, CHiKA has created an immersive light environment where LED wands and reflective vinyl balloons are impromptuly installed throughout the gallery. Within the LED installation, five QR Codes are placed in different parts of the gallery, each one triggers one of CHiKA’s augmented reality sculptures. Taking inspiration from the five Platonic solids - the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, icosahedron, and dodecahedron in combination with the five natural elements from Chinese philosophy, these AR sculptures are architectural, geometric, and precise. Juxtaposing the physical installation's unsystematic assembly with the deliberately executed digital sculptures, CHiKA presents us with a dualistic viewpoint. One that guides us to a deeper understanding of our increasingly virtual world.

The final result of CHiKA’s investigation of materials, categorizing, and assembly is a space that allows for mindful contemplation.  Where elements of what is and what could be merge into one harmonious atmosphere. Through sculptural intervention  CHiKA provides an utopian vision of what could be, so we can begin to locate and thus measure ourselves against these new designed realities.
